10 African countries with powerful passports in the world in 2023

A person’s ability to travel internationally is greatly impacted by the passport they hold.

This can lead to some regions having an easier time traveling than others. The strength of a passport can vary greatly between countries, and this is where the Henley Passport Index comes in.

This index, created by global citizenship and residence advisory company Henley & Partners, ranks passports based on data from the International Air Transport Authority. It is updated quarterly and covers 199 different passports and 227 different travel destinations. This year, the index has expanded to include 109 regions, with Japan having the strongest passport, allowing visa-free access to 193 countries.

African countries also made the list, with Seychelles having the strongest passport on the continent. The index uses a specific methodology to determine the ranking of each passport, taking into account visa requirements and government approvals.
